Deactivate automatic Reposting of News Items as Forum Posts?

Hey, we (the admin team) are wondering if we should deactivate the automatic reposting of news items as forum posts. They seem to clutter the forum a bit and take a lot of space compared to self-generated posts. But at the same time people do regularly comment on news item posts and start small discussions from time to time. What do you think, what would you prefer? Please vote below:

  • Keep automatic Reposting of News Items
  • Deactivate automatic Reposting of News Items

My arguments in favour of deactivating the news items are that the volume of news items overwhelms the forum activity and pushes the user posts further down the recent activity list, they are very rarely commented on (just scanning the last 10 news items had no comments) and it duplicates news items I already receive via the newsletter.

I’d like to hear the arguments in favour of keeping the automatic news items by those that want to keep it.

One option may be that news items without replies with more than x numbers of days could be deleted. There’s a plugin that supposedly does this automatically.

I have to say, this is a compelling argument that led me to change my vote. If someone wants to discuss a piece from the news section, they should just open a new thread.

Also, published news on the website are already open for comments. It would be nice to have the site’s comments and forum integrated into one place and organized to avoid cramming but each system has it’s own peculiarities.

Following the poll result, I’ve de-activated the automatic news posting to the forum.
